Doctoral studies represent the highest level of university education and aim to advance knowledge through original scientific research. Doctoral programmes may be pursued on a full-time or part-time basis and are offered in two formats: scientific doctorate and professional doctorate.
The programme includes advanced courses, examinations and the preparation of a doctoral thesis, and is delivered within accredited higher education institutions. Upon successful completion, graduates are awarded the doctoral degree (PhD) in their field of specialization.
The standard duration of doctoral studies is four years. In duly justified cases, this period may be extended by one or two years. The programme concludes with the public defence of the doctoral thesis, which is evaluated by a committee of experts approved by the Senate of the Doctoral Studies Organizing Institution (IOSUD).
The doctoral degree is awarded by IOSUD–UDJG following the receipt of a favorable opinion from the National Council for the Attestation of Academic Titles, Diplomas and University Certificates, confirming compliance with the applicable administrative procedures and the fulfillment of the minimum criteria required for the awarding of the doctoral diploma.
